5 Best Practices For Attracting New Clients By Talking on Social Media, Pay Attention

“Social media is called social for a reason. It lends itself to sharing rather than horn tooting .”
Margaret Attwood

If you owned a $100 million home would you assume that it could sell itself? This is the premise of this weeks piece in lessons from Tweetstock.

As you are reading this we are heading up for what may be a final few summer days by a lake, not in a $100 million home, but one with a million dollar view!!

This week is the fifth in a series of articles I have written based on my opportunity to attend the annual Tweetstock.ca Conference in June, which was being held for the first time in Hamilton.  I had never attended one before so was not sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by the caliber of speakers who came from across North America.

The wealth of insights and information shared was so rich that I put together a series of articles, each one summarizing a lesson from the six key sessions that I attended.

You can read the first four lessons here;

Lesson #1 The Power of Video – Why Your Brand May Need Vine

Lesson #2 – 5 Social Things You Can Do For Your Brand

Lesson #3 – 8 Steps to Captivating an Audience

Lesson #4 – 4 Steps to Turn Social Media Into a Positive Customer Service Experience

If you owned a $100 million home would you assume that it could sell itself? High end real estate brokers seemed to think so. Danielle Garafolo had a hard job initially convincing them of this. I admired her belief and hard work that eventually paid off. She now does marketing and social media for the $1 to $100 million real estate market in New York City.

Social media may appear easy and her tips on the surface may seem obvious. But as she pointed out, people just do not seem inclined to follow them.

  1. Talk to your followers.
  2. Respond when people talk to you.
  3. Keep it light.
  4. Use humour.
  5. Be authentic.

She also had some tips on building your network.  You may not have to add new people, if you first follow these tips;

  • How are you nurturing your current network right now?
  • Follow the rule of 10. Reach out and touch/meet 10 people. Then 10 more, then 10 more.

And as far as social media goes;

  • Content is king.
  • Communication will be key
  • Best investment you can make is in humans!

How are you talking on social media?
