"Football is not a matter of life and death, its much more important than that!" – Bill Shankly

This weekend saw the start of the European Football Championships and a bi-annual occurence in my house (whenever the World Cup or Euro's are on) that I go 'soccer' crazy in the hope that one year England will repeat its feat from 1966 of winning the World Cup or some other trophy. Yes we Brit's have been waiting longer than the Toronto Maple Leafs for cup success!!

England played France on Sunday, or rather more descriptively England played France for 89 out of 90 minutes and were leading 1-0. I was already dreaming of the quarterfinals when two costly mistakes ended up with France winning 2-1.

The groans from my house could be heard across the valley and I am still in a state of shock!

On to Thursday against the Swiss, if we lose I will never eat Toblerone again!
