"Experience is not what happens to a man, it is what a man does with what happens to him." – Aldous Huxley
I am continually dipping in to a book (which is on my 'what I am reading' list) – The Power of Focus and I am attempting to incorporate a little of the book each week in to my life.
This title is very apt in relation to my current nightly ritual of watching a true professional in the Power of Focus – Lance Armstrong in the Tour de France. His daily focus on the stage that he is cycling in is astounding, his focus on the end goal not the daily victories admirable, his long term focus on winning what looks like his sixth Tour in a row – a new record – will be just unbelievable.
Whilst the tour is a very 'singular' achievement Armstrong is quick to point out the importance of the US Postal Team that rides with him and paces him every day and certainly the back room team of coaches, medical staff, technicians etc etc. An amazing team effort.
I will be glued to the TV on Sunday for the final ride in to the Champs Elysees, the tour must be almost unique as what I assume is the largest free spectator sport in the world. The stage yesterday had around one million spectators lining a course of less than 20kms – another amazing team effort in logistics.
A great event, a great feat, great for the power of human endurance and ability to achieve what your truly believe you can do.
I am inspired and in awe.
