"Service is what life is all about" Marian Wright Edelman
We spent Saturday morning volunteering and participating in the local Rotary 5k/1k run/walk for kids. The slightly overcast weather certainly did not put a dampener on our efforts. My 4 year old son Aidan ran and walked in the kids 1k race, raised $250 for the charities and was one of the top children fundraisers.
We had over 500 local kids involved and it was a great sight to see all of the fun they were having, there was activities before and afterward and free food and prizes. My wife Keri ran the 5k and took a few seconds off her best time.
The great news is that two very needy locally based children's charities will benefit from several thousand dollars for their causes – City Kidz and KidsFest Canada, you can look at their work by clicking on the links.
I am so fortunate to have had such a strong base and foundation growing up and I hope to offer my children the same. Part of that foundation is being able to give to those in the community that need our help, I was so proud of my family that they took the time to do that on Saturday.
