A short while ago I had the pleasure of presenting at the National Technology Youth Leadership Conference put on by the bioscience students at Queens University for grade 11 and 12 students from across Canada who are interested in pursuing bioscience.
The group were an incredibly enthusiastic and engaged bunch and I really enjoyed their energy. Also I was blown away by their ability to very quickly grasp the personal branding concept, put it in to action and immediately see the relevance for their own careers.
One of the team exercises they did was to come up with a personal brand statement for either Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. I took a quick video of their work above. There was some really creative and original ideas.
Personal branding for me is going to be a key differentiator for the next generations coming in to the workforce and for a country to compete in attracting the best talent for their schools, jobs, organizations etc – if this group were an indication of Canada's future leaders I feel we are in good hands.
Can you guess which personal brand statement or tagline applies to Gates or Jobs?
Innovation and personalization of computer technology by Bill Gates. He is man behind $100 computer. And Steve Jobs is for innovation and sharing of technology. Both want to make technology common and accessible.
