This past Thanksgiving weekend we had a friend drop by on the Sunday afternoon.
It was a little surprising because both their kids were back visiting from school for the weekend and we assumed they would be wanting to spend their time with them.
“Oh it’s ok” our friend said “They are taking some reel time.”
I assumed I had heard REAL time, but it was REEL time.
In other words, they were scrolling through reel video after reel video on Instagram or TikTok.
I tried it last night.
It was addictive.
I spent way more time than I thought I would.
The algorithm knows you, very quickly, and keeps you ‘hooked’.
You wait for the next video because maybe that is the one that will satisfy your craving.
It wasn’t. So you wait for another….and another…..and another.
By the time I stopped, I felt fuller than after a massive turkey dinner.
Except the fullness was empty. It felt deflating. Wasteful. Even depressing.
We have a reel crisis on our hands and TUMS is not going to be the solution.
