Honest feedback was missing.
Last week, a client struggling with building engagement and momentum for their organization, decided to run a Zoom call to gather some.
As with most online events, attendance was less than 50% of registrants.
Heads were nodding in agreement as solutions were outlined. Positive comments were made.
But the challenge was those on the call were already ‘fans’ or converts.
We weren’t getting the responses we wanted.
If your organization struggles with engagement, first, get very clear about your target audience. There is no point in reaching out for feedback from people who are not a good fit. Don’t rely on the fans and converts, look to include the ‘non-believers’.
If they won’t jump on a webinar or a 1:1 call try one of these ideas;
1. Anonymous Survey with Incentives
Send a quick, anonymous survey with straightforward, specific questions to understand why they aren’t participating. Keep it short and offer an incentive like a gift card or entry into a raffle for completing it. This approach can help them feel comfortable sharing honest feedback without feeling singled out.
2. Personalized Email Outreach
Reach out individually via email with a brief, personalized message that acknowledges their busy schedules and asks for a few quick insights. Rather than asking for a large time commitment, include a few one-click poll questions within the email. This gives them a voice without the pressure of a lengthy response.
3. Interactive Social Media or App Polls
If you have a social media group or app, create a casual, low-pressure poll that allows members to select from multiple choices on why they’re not participating. Use engaging language to make it feel informal. This approach lets them respond in a setting they’re already comfortable with, which can yield more honest input.
