It seems ironic that today, November 5th, election day in the United States is also the anniversary in the UK of Guy Fawkes.
In 1605, Guy Fawkes, an early rebel, attempted to blow up the English Parliament but was caught and executed. Since then, people in England have marked the occasion by burning effigies of him and setting off fireworks. Any excuse for a party!
Remember, remember the 5th of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason, why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot – Anon
Whilst we will not know any definitive results today, I can only hope that November 5th does not become as infamous in history, for all of us.
