Stop Doing Something for the Sake of Activity

We see it all the time.

Advice about how many times to post on social media each week, how many words an SEO-written post should be, and the number of cold outreach emails or messages we need to send each day.

But do we have to?

I was on a webinar yesterday as part of a program I am involved in.

The participants were sharing feedback with the facilitator on what they got from the program.

One particular comment resonated with me because it easily applies to many of us.

They said one of the benefits of the program was it helped them realise they could “stop doing something for the sake of doing it” and instead focus on what was going to visibly move the needle forward.

If you have been following the ‘guru’ advice, like number of posts, words or messages then you have a lot of time and effort invested.

It’s hard to stop.

But sometimes the best thing you can do is stop. Especially if it’s doing it for the sake of doing it, or not breaking a streak.

Take the time to really analyse if what you are doing is having an effect. Is it moving the needle?

A reset may be a better choice.
