Do you exist on Google and why should you care?

  • by

This was the title of the breakout sessions I delivered as part of the London Economic Development Corporations Student To Business Networking event last week, as well as the keynote to over 700 students and local company employees and it was interesting to note how many of them came up to me afterwards and admitted that they had not been paying as much attention to this as they obviously needed to as… Read More »Do you exist on Google and why should you care?

And the Mercedes goes to………

  • by

"I wonder why some people have an issue with the concept of Direct Selling, Network Marketing or MLM..? I personally would prefer to buy from a Consultant who can be rewarded for sharing a better quality product they love, rather than buy from a company who invests millions (even billions!) in seductive advertising while paying celebrities to endorse something they never use…!"  – Maria Elita Lots of excitement at my… Read More »And the Mercedes goes to………

And the award goes to……….

So let me get clear on this…….it is personal branders who are narcissists – right? Maybe its just me, or maybe it's because it is awards season, but there seems to be an increase in the number of self congratulations flying around from 'gurus' -  several recent examples spring to mind: – The marketing expert that continues to decry all other forms of marketing other than their own and then litters their stream with self… Read More »And the award goes to……….

Does your style reflect your brand or the companies?

  • by

It is probably right to say that most companies have some sort of unwritten corporate dress code, I can remember back in the 80's that Duracell, then an up and coming company, seemed to attract men who wore white shirts, red ties and blue suits! But how far should a company go in directing dress code to employees? It would appear that the Swiss bankers UBS went a little too far… Read More »Does your style reflect your brand or the companies?

Lost touch? – how to get your networking started again

  • by

One of the most common pitfalls I see with networking is not doing it. So often I will be sitting down with a client and talking about who they know and a guilty look comes over their face; "Oh I haven't been in touch with that person for ages." or "The last time I spoke to them was when I was job hunting the last time." or "We used to work side by side… Read More »Lost touch? – how to get your networking started again

Approach the online job market differently this year

  • by

In a webinar I delivered yesterday for Blue Steps, I spoke to the trend that I am seeing in the job market currently, namely hiring going on but companies not shouting about the opportunities. Although they are going to continue to use online as a major source of candidates, it is going to be via the sites that have profiles or networks, such as LinkedIn, versus the job boards. This… Read More »Approach the online job market differently this year

Be sure not to make those career limiting comments

  • by

The sacking of one the the UK's top sports commentators for sexist comments that he thought were off air is a perfect reminder to us all its not the fact that he is a celebrity brand but in such a technology based society, NOTHING is ever off the record for all our personal brand reputations. Check out three reminders from good friend and career coach colleague Sital on his blog… Read More »Be sure not to make those career limiting comments

Are we ‘related’? – Lets connect, friend and follow

  • by

2011 promises to be a different year from the last two or three in a number of ways. In reading a number of predctions and outlooks it would certainly seem that networks are going to play an even bigger part than ever before. A couple of recent employment and hiring surveys have identified that recruiters and hiring managers are going to be using the main social networks of LinkedIn,… Read More »Are we ‘related’? – Lets connect, friend and follow

Who sounds worse?

  • by

In my house at the moment, I am recovering from a tonsillectomy, the kids are not sure which sounds worse, me or the cat with a furball! Either way I am still responsible for any clean up!

Stop shouting – Be still my beating heart

  • by

If you are gathering around the water cooler (see yesterdays blog post) you might want to keep the noise level down. A recent study found that people are three times more likely to suffer heart problems if they work in a noisy environment for 1-2 years. See article here. Maybe that is the reason screaming bosses turn over staff so often!
