Apprentice – Week 9

  • by

Arrow seemed to be a better team with Surya gone and with the aid of Nicole and Tim were easily the winners. Kinetic managed to use Muna's poor performance in front of the camera enough to get her fired, although I think Kristine could easily have fallen if Muna was more prepared for the board meeting – fatal flaw.

Raising Your Wiki Profile

This is Gene Weingarten – journalist for the Washington Post and author of a recent article "The Joys of Writing Your Own Wiki-Bio" (see Wiki Watchee – free subscription required). There has been some recent 'exposes' about the validity of information contained on Wikipedia – the free online encyclopedia and Fuzzy Zoeller the golfer has just launched a defamation law suit against a company who's employee used their computers to… Read More »Raising Your Wiki Profile

Apprentice – Week 8

Surya is gone – not a big surprise, although he tried hard to defend himself there just was not a strong enough case against anyone else.

Were You Expecting a Tip?

  • by

I was having a breakfast meeting with a client recently and it was interesting to notice the assumptions that were being made by the waitress who was serving us. Generally for the first few times coming to the table her focus was on me, my order and making an impression – my female client was almost entirely ignored. At one point she commented on this when the waitress went away… Read More »Were You Expecting a Tip?

The Apprentice – Week 7

  • by

Back after a couple of weeks, I was not getting withdrawl symptoms – perhaps my brain had already assumed that due to the continued fall in the ratings the program had been pulled! The really good news was that it all finally caught up with Derek – he was fired during the boardroom discussion. His actions and lack of ability had been shining through but he seemed somehow to manage… Read More »The Apprentice – Week 7

Brand Connections

  • by

There is an interesting white paper recently placed on Brandchannel.com – "The Seven Doors of Connection" – the seven areas as the potential common grounds that can bridge relationships and build connections between people and brands. This directly relates to personal branding – people love to connect to people – the essence of personal brand perceptions and also what many are looking for in terms of their relationship with their… Read More »Brand Connections

And the Oscar goes too……..

  • by

Probably like many of you, I watched the Oscars last night – long enough to see Al Gore's documentary win, but not long enough to see Scorsese receive the consolation Oscar that he should have won a long time ago. Al Gore's rise to popularity has been nothing short of amazing, but it is also a lesson in what not to do when building your personal brand. When he was… Read More »And the Oscar goes too……..

So How Do You Think You Did?

  • by

If you have ever come back home from an interview and been asked the question "So how did it go?" – are you able to clearly identify the parts of the interview that went well and those that you could have improved on? Chances are, like many job candidates, interviews go past very quickly and you are lucky if you have the ability to recollect even half of what went… Read More »So How Do You Think You Did?

Think Your Resume Works?

  • by

In the presentations that I deliver on personal branding I always like to cover some background as to why personal branding is now becoming a key part of career management. One such area of discussion is the increasing rise of exaggeration or out right lies on resumes, latest surveys place this at over 50% of all resumes! That's why in the work I do with clients I advocate the need… Read More »Think Your Resume Works?

The Apprentice – Week 6

  • by

Another example this week (or should we say weak) mistakes and misteps. One team led by a highly verbose leader who insists on using million dollar word when 10 cents worth will do and the other team led by someone no-one in the team respects and ultimately planned her demise. Goodbye this week to Aimee, perhaps not totally deserved but she did not do enough to defend herself. I just… Read More »The Apprentice – Week 6
