Let’s Be Extra Careful Out There!

Firstly Happy Canada Day to all Canadian readers and Happy 4th of July for Monday to all my American readers. A new, unpublished Intel Security survey of 2,000 U.K.-based LinkedIn users found that nearly 24 percent of respondents have connected on LinkedIn with someone they did not know. Moreover, nearly 69 percent of survey-takers said it never even crossed their minds that the people they’ve connected with might be fictional online personas… Read More »Let’s Be Extra Careful Out There!

Are You Running Up Against the Commercial Use Search Limit on LinkedIn?

Commercial limit

BUT I want to do more searches! With a number of changes over the last several months LinkedIn has also appeared to be playing with how many searches you can conduct. This has always been the case with free accounts but now it seems the same applies to some of the Premium accounts too.

What is more frustrating is that there does not seem to be any definitive number, I have found with my own Premium account that I can run up to this limit just before my renewal date is, but other months it can be in the first few days and I don’t seem to be doing anything different!

Here are some solutions …..Read More »Are You Running Up Against the Commercial Use Search Limit on LinkedIn?

What Use is Your Headshot on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn Headshot

How Important Is Your Headshot?

According to various sources having a head shot on LinkedIn can increase the chances of your profile being looked at in more detail by between 7 and 14 times. LinkedIn says around 11 times. Like it or not others are making decisions regarding your profile photo, or lack of one.

This may not be as far fetched as you might think. If you are a recruiter, hiring manager or someone looking to buy a product or service and your are searching, or come across an update or comment, you often look for the headshot first.

So what is your reaction if you do not see a face?

It might be that the person is trying to hide something, or they are not serious about business or you just move on.

So first things first, you need a headshot.

The first key step is…..Read More »What Use is Your Headshot on LinkedIn?

STOP Damaging Your Personal Brand & Reputation on LinkedIn With Fake Connections

Hey! (1)

There have been a number of articles and press reports about the increasing use of LinkedIn by spammers and other types using false LinkedIn profiles.

If we are honest most of us have been there. Taken in by the deceptive profile that wants to connect on LinkedIn we accept, we might even take time to thank them.  Almost immediately the spam or phishing message comes in and we either ignore it, delete it or wish we had been more vigilant.  Maybe next time we will be.

Don’t worry, you are not alone. Many of the most connected and most professional on this network are doing the same, without knowing or perhaps, I hope not,  caring.

The profile above was…….Read More »STOP Damaging Your Personal Brand & Reputation on LinkedIn With Fake Connections

How to easily find out how interested someone is in your LInkedIn profile

1 LI Profile

According to LinkedIn the most viewed page that most members check out is the “Who’s Viewed My Profile” page. It is probably not surprising, after all we want to know how interesting we may appear to someone. Especially if its a prospect, hiring manager or recruiter right?

The number of times your profile is viewed by different people is one of the key pieces of data that LinkedIn uses in giving your profile preference in searches. It is what they call part of the ‘interest’ factor.

If you have the basic account you only get to see the last 5 people that looked. With a premium account you can look back as far as 90 days.

But all options do NOT tell you how many times that person may have looked at your profile. Especially if its the same day.

This is important because;
– They may be comparing you to other people with similar backgrounds.
– You come up in their searches several times and are increasingly of interest to them.
– More than one person has recommended you and they are coming back.

The good news is, there is a solution. ……..Read More »How to easily find out how interested someone is in your LInkedIn profile
